Father Arrested for Honor Killing After Strangling Daughter and Using Acid to Conceal Identity in Lucknow
A chilling honor killing has been uncovered in Lucknow after 34-year-old Vijay Kumar Chaubey confessed to murdering his 16-year-old daughter, Vandana Chaubey. Alongside accomplice Abdul Mannan, Chaubey strangled the teen and used acid to disfigure her face in Barabanki after she refused to end a relationship. Discover the full details of this investigation and the arrests made.
The roots of the tragedy trace back to August 2025, when the teenager eloped with her boyfriend. Although the girl was eventually brought back to her home, the boy was sent to jail for a period of three months. Despite these interventions, Vandana continued to maintain contact with her lover following his release in November. This persistent relationship allegedly brought perceived shame upon the family, driving her father, 34-year-old Vijay Kumar Chaubey, to a lethal breaking point. Chaubey, who worked as a bus driver at a university in Lucknow, reportedly found himself moving houses multiple times in a desperate attempt to evade the social stigma associated with his daughter's actions.
Driven by mounting disappointment and the minor’s repeated refusal to end the relationship despite his persuasion, Chaubey hatched a deadly conspiracy with his 45-year-old accomplice, Abdul Mannan. On April 13, the pair rented a car under the guise of taking Vandana to Rajasthan for exorcism or faith-healing rituals. As they reached a deserted stretch of road in Barabanki that night, the men choked the girl to death while she slept. To ensure the body remained unidentified, they poured acid over her face. While they initially intended to dispose of the remains in the Sharda Canal, the sight of approaching vehicles caused the men to panic, leading them to abandon the body and flee the scene.
The criminal plot began to collapse after Chaubey filed a deceptive missing person’s complaint via the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) portal on April 16. During the subsequent investigation, police analyzed call records and interrogated several suspects. These forensic leads pointed directly to the father, revealing that a distressed Chaubey had conspired to murder his daughter to escape social disgrace. Following a confrontation with the evidence, Chaubey confessed to the crime. Both Vijay Kumar Chaubey and Abdul Mannan have been arrested, and further legal proceedings are currently underway. This case serves as a harrowing reminder of the extreme lengths to which the fear of social stigma can drive individuals, resulting in the brutal termination of a young life at the hands of a parent.
